 Gary C’s Guiding now offers a special hunt for inexperienced hunters, offered the first week of Maine’s deer hunting season. A learn to hunt course for those wanting to improve their hunting skills or for the beginner that wants to learn from experienced professionals.

Beginner hunters: In order to obtain an adult hunting license you must show proof of having previously held an adult license to hunt with firearms in any year beginning with 1976 or successful completion of an approved hunter safety course.

This package is designed for 2 hunters with 2 guides (1 on 1) and includes instruction in map and compass, scouting from maps, scouting in the field, tracking, and basic hunting techniques.

Learn to hunt while you hunt. The hunt takes place in an area around the headwaters of the Aroostook watershed. Part of the North Maine Woods; this area encompasses thousands of acres with terrain that includes hardwood ridges, regenerated cuts, cedar swamps, and softwood forests.

Our goal is to provide a truly memorable experience and the opportunity to pursue Maine’s trophy Whitetail deer while at the same time learning the do’s and don’ts, the rights and wrongs, of a big woods hunt. We focus on instruction as well as the hunt and the friendships established by the pursuit of these trophy animals.

Your guides have over seventy years of hunting experience and forty years of guiding experience between them. Our equipment includes two FWD vehicles, two-way radios, 2 GPS's, and maps of the area. In addition to your normal hunting equipment, we suggest that you have two compasses, a daypack or fanny pack, and a thermos. You should realize that your clothing is a very important part of any hunt. Northern Maine’s weather during the hunting season is unpredictable, be prepared for all types of conditions. We recommend layering with wool as an outer layer or some similar quiet fabric. It goes without saying that consideration of your feet and hands is important as well. When booking this special hunt through Gary C.’s Guiding, we make all of the arrangements and reservations with the sporting camps. The package includes home cooked meals, private log cabin with full bath facilities, and maid service. During the hunting season you should consider bringing your own sleeping bag.

The cost of this special hunt is $1900 / person plus tax and license fee. This price is based on two hunters and includes accommodations with three meals a day, two guides, and guides equipment for one week. The hunt is six days, Monday through Saturday. [Maine has no Sunday hunting] Arrive on Sunday, depart on the following Sunday.

Hunting in northern Maine’s wilderness has been a tradition for generations. Nowhere in the eastern United States do you have a better opportunity of taking a trophy of a lifetime. Bucks weighing 200 plus pounds are not uncommon.

When we designed this package it was our intent to offer inexperienced hunters a professionally guided Trophy Whitetail Hunt that would not only teach them how to hunt, but would also give them the confidence and ability to appreciate the true meaning of a trophy hunt in the big woods.
